Teen Slang 101 — Your guide is ready

Teen Slang 101

Your guide is ready. So is your next conversation.

this outfit is giving y2k, no cap it's bussin
is that good or bad
Decoded: "giving y2k" = early‑2000s look. "no cap" = not lying. "bussin" = really good. Translation: your teen loves the outfit.

Okay, you did it. You stopped nodding along to texts you didn't understand and actually went and got the decoder ring. Every "no cap," every "it's giving," every mystery phrase your teen dropped at dinner, you're about to have the answer for all of it.

And honestly? Good move. Most parents wait until a conversation already went weird before they look this stuff up. You didn't wait.

Tonight

Open the guide. Read the Introduction and Chapter 1 (pages 1 to 7). Quick, easy, and it explains why your teen's language moves so fast in the first place.

Before bed

Grab the quick reference slang guide and find three words you've actually heard your kid say this week. That's it. Just spot them.

Tomorrow morning

Start Chapter 2 (page 8), all the "slay," "bussin'," "it's giving" stuff. Keep the red flags checklist somewhere handy too, not because something's wrong, but because it's good to have it before you need it.

You're not going to memorize 150 slang terms overnight, and that's not the point. The point is next week you'll catch one more word than you would have today, and ask one better question than you would have last month. That's really the whole thing.
